Tim's Most Memorable Moment
Several years ago we received a call for a wreck with entrapment on Highway 53. I arrived on the scene to find a truck with heavy damage to the front end in the ditch with two women inside. I looked for the other vehicle; there was glass and car parts scattered everywhere. The other vehicle was in pieces over 500 feet away. The driver of the truck was entrapped with her legs pinned under the dash. She was pregnant and terrified. The passenger was also entrapped but had no injuries. I called their priorities into County Fire as the driver held onto my hand tightly and asked me not to leave her. We waited together for what seemed like forever on that dark night. I kept talking to her all the while trying to reassure her that help was on the way. She told me they were from Illinois and were on their way back home.
Soon the rescue unit arrived on the scene, extricated them and transported them to the hospital where she lost the baby. About six months later, she called from Illinois and told me of her injuries and that she was going through major rehab to learn to walk again. She told me she would never forget my reassuring voice telling her that she was going to be ok. The conversation ended with her saying if she was ever brave enough to travel to Alabama again she wanted to thank me in person. Seldom if ever do you hear about your patient after leaving the scene. But to actually have that patient contact you and tell you that you made a difference for them in their time of need was very humbling.
